NSE/BSE Pre-Open Session – Revised Timings Effective September 7, 2026

Dear Client,

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has revised the framework governing the Pre-Open Session, effective Monday, September 7, 2026. While the overall pre-open session timings will remain unchanged, the Order Entry Period will now be divided into two phases.

The revised timings and key changes are as follows:

  • 9:00 AM – 9:05 AM | Phase 1 – Order Entry
    • Order placement, modification and cancellation will be permitted for both Limit and Market Orders.
  • 9:05 AM – 9:10 AM | Phase 2 – Order Entry
    • Only Limit Orders can be placed, modified or cancelled.
    • Market Orders will not be permitted and will be rejected during this phase.
    • The system may initiate a random closure during the last two minutes of the order-entry period.
  • 9:10 AM – 9:12 AM | Order Matching & Trade Confirmation
    • Orders will be matched.
    • The opening price will be determined.
    • Trade confirmations will be processed.
  • 9:12 AM – 9:15 AM | Buffer Period
    • No change in timings.
    • This period facilitates the smooth transition from the Pre-Open Session to the Continuous Trading Session.

The revised framework is intended to strengthen the price-discovery process and bring greater alignment between the equity cash and derivatives markets, in line with the changes introduced for the Closing Auction Session (CAS).

Important for Clients:
Clients are advised to take note of the revised Order Entry Phases. In particular, Market Orders will be accepted only during 9:00 AM to 9:05 AM during the Pre-Open Session. Market Orders placed during the 9:05 AM to 9:10 AM phase will not be accepted.

Alice Blue advises all clients to take note of these changes and plan their orders accordingly.
