EPF Passbook Not Updated? Don't Panic

Many EPFO members are waiting for their FY2025–26 interest (8.25%) to appear in their EPF passbooks. If yours hasn’t been updated yet, don’t assume you’ve missed out on your interest.

What’s causing the delay?

EPFO is crediting interest in phases across millions of member accounts. Since the organisation manages one of the world’s largest retirement funds, the interest credit process is carried out in batches rather than updating every account on the same day.

Will you lose any interest?

No. EPF interest is calculated on your monthly running balance throughout the financial year. Even if the credit appears later in your passbook, the interest earned remains the same at the approved 8.25% for FY2025–26.

Latest EPFO Interest Update: What Every Member Should Know

  • EPFO has started crediting 8.25% annual interest for FY2025–26.

  • SMS alerts are being sent once interest is credited, while passbook updates may take additional time.

  • The interest credit process covers crores of EPF member accounts, so not everyone will see the update simultaneously.

  • Members are advised to check only the official EPFO portal or UMANG app for updates and avoid relying on social media rumours.

Bottom Line

A delayed passbook update does not mean delayed earnings. Your interest is calculated as per EPFO rules, and the updated balance will reflect once your account is processed.
